Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit palette review

(photo from here.)

If you haven't been living under a rock, you will have heard of the ambient lighting powders by Hourglass. I've been lusting after these for ages and when I found out they were releasing a palette version I just had to have it.

So let's start with the packaging... I am in love *heart eyes emoji*. The gold packaging is just gorgeous, my only complaint is that it does get dirty quite easily as it has that high-shine slightly mirrored finish.

The perfect foundation? Nars All Day Luminous review

(Picture from here.)

I think I may have found the perfect foundation for oily/normal skin types. Like most people, I've been on the hunt for a foundation that actually suits my skin for what feels like forever - I'm not asking for much; just a foundation with decent coverage, that doesn't come off half way through the day and that doesn't cling to any dry patches on my face. If you have skin similar to mine (oily in the T-zone and normal everywhere else), this foundation does all three.

The official Nars website promises that this foundation has 'full, natural-looking coverage with unexpectedly weightless, 16-hour wear' which I have to some-what agree with. This foundation does offer a natural look whilst still being a medium to full coverage foundation (especially if you use two layers - it's very easy to build up a stronger coverage) but I definitely don't think it lasts 16-hours - but what foundation does? It lasts closer to around 10-12 hours on my skin, which to be quite honest is enough for me. I have been using this foundation for a couple months now and I can assure you that it's also pretty waterproof, I have been to clubs and in the rain whilst wearing this and it has lasted through both.

I also have break-out prone skin and this foundation is yet to cause any issues. Nars All Day Luminous gives a satin finish, kind of in between a matte and dewy one, which personally I really like.

The Real Techniques stippling brush works really well in applying this, I have tried using my fingers but the formula dries very quickly so it doesn't work too well.

If you don't own this already I suggest you go out and buy it! This is my favourite foundation by far.

Sweet or Sour? ❤ Too-faced semi-sweet chocolate bar palette review

(photo from here)
Buy here for US readers and here for UK readers.
I really do have an unhealthy addiction with palettes, eye-shadow palettes being one of my absolute favourites. However, I'm quite picky when it comes to eye-shadows and I consider myself somewhat an eye-shadow connoisseur. I love warm brown and neutral shades so when I saw Too Faced bring out the original Chocolate Bar palette I went absolutely gaga for it, buying it almost immediately. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed with the bulky packaging and ended up just not reaching for it that much, so when Too Faced bought out the next edition I wasn't that excited.

However, I got this beauty for Christmas and I am obsessed. Like the first chocolate bar palette, this one also smells of the most heavenly chocolate and every time I open the lid I get slightly hungry.

So as already mentioned, this palette consists of mainly neutrals which would make natural-fans rejoice. There is a wide mix of sparkly shadows and matte shadows which is really useful in a palette so that you can create multiple looks. The shadows are highly pigmented and creamy - they blend out just beautifully. Another plus of the palette is the two larger pans of highlight shades. I don't know about you, but I always get through my highlight shades a lot quicker than the rest so this is really useful. My only complaint would be I wish they had put Peanut Butter in a larger pan because it is the perfect crease colour for me and I know I'm going to get through it so quickly, but I know Too Faced didn't make this palette solely for me so I can't complain too much!

Too Faced are also cruelty free and as I am an ethical vegetarian this is always something I look for in a company.

For £39 you recieve 16 gorgeous shadows which you could use to create almost any look, the blue in the palette is also one of the most beautiful shadows I have ever seen and can instantly dress up this palette and allow you to create a night appropriate look.

This palette would be perfect for everyone - from people who love minimal make up and to people who love a lot (like me!) so if you don't own it already I highly recommend you nip out now and buy one.

Excuse the low quality photo but I just quickly wanted to share a really simple eye look using the palette.
I had worn this look all day and the staying power  is phenomenal. To create this I just put on a quick wash of Nougat all over the lid, Peanut Butter through the crease, Truffled in the outter V and I highlighted with Butter Peacan.

What I got for Christmas 2015

Hi again! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and it was filled with all your special loved ones. I was very unwell this year and had to spend it in bed (no - it wasn't a hangover!) so my parents and I are re-doing the day on Sunday (including a full Christmas dinner! Mmm.) Every year that I get older I feel like the magic of Christmas is lessened, which is really sad as I absolutely love the holiday season especially now that I'm at a university really far away from home and I don't get to see my family all that often.

My favourite type of blog posts to read around this time are the 'What I Got For Christmas' ones and now that I have aly-space I really wanted to make one too. I know these aren't always everyone's favourites as they can seem like the poster is bragging but I'm honestly just extremely grateful for everything I received this year and wanted to share some bits with other nosey people like me. I know this may seem like a lot but bare in mind I'm an only child and my parents just enjoy spoiling me as we only get to see each other once every few months during term time.

I've narrowed this down to just my favourites as if I posted pictures and descriptions of everything I would be here all day! So any way, enough with the boring disclaimer stuff...

Five things this blog is not

Hi there! So after many months of contemplating whether or not blogging was for me, and with a little bit of persuasion from my boyfriend, I've finally decided it's time to start my first beauty blog.

So to kick start my blog I thought the best way to introduce 'alyspace' was to tell you what this blog is not with a short launch post.

1) This blog is not going to be purely beauty related.
I don't think it will be anyway. I'm hoping to have some direction and theme with my content but also I don't want to feel restricted. If I have baked something and want to show it off, I probably will. If I've done something exciting and want to share, I probably will do that also. Whilst make-up and beauty products are kind of my thing, my life doesn't revolve around them (not entirely anyway!).

2) This blog is not going to be purely high-end reviews.
I absolutely love trying new high-end products and I am a self-admitted make-up snob, but I also get bored of reading the same reviews of the same hyped up high-end products. I think we all know that Urban Decay's new Naked Palette is going to be good - do I really need to make yet another post with the same swatches as everyone else? I have this dream of going into Boots and picking up a bunch of barely talked about beauty products and finding my new staple. Is that too much to ask for?!

3) This blog is not going to be perfect at first.
I feel like this is self-explanatory. I'm a first time beauty blogger and currently only equipped with an iPhone and some fairy lights. It's going to take me some time to figure out my writing style, what I like to blog about and also build up a decent kit.

4) This blog is not going to be supported by a youtube channel.
Youtube and filming just isn't for me. I'm really not that comfortable in front of a camera, nor do I have the appropriate equipment. I've contemplated Youtube before as I absolutely love watching certain channels, but I just think I would be rubbish at it and not enjoy it. Never say never, but at this point in my life I just feel like Youtube won't be my thing.

5) This blog is not going to be about getting the most followers.
Don't get me wrong, I am really excited about getting involved with the beauty blogger community but I am not creating this as a way to get my name out. At the end of the day, I just want to have a new hobby that I can throw myself into!

So, I hope you found out a few things about me and what I intend to create! I'm hoping this blog will be active just after Christmas or perhaps beginning of the New Year, I've got a couple of ideas of what I want to post about first and as I'm currently not at university I have a few weeks free to get into this project.

Fingers crossed that this goes the way I am hoping!

Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year,
