Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation Review

I've been on a bit of a foundation binge recently. I find foundations is the make up product that I struggle with the most. I like satin to dewy finishes and something that doesn't accentuate my pores and dry patches, but also something that doesn't make me any more oily than I already am - is that so much to ask for??!? After begrudgingly finishing my bottle of YSL Touche Eclat so that I didn't waste the £30+ I paid for it, when on a impromptu shopping trip I walked past a Bobbi Brown and new it was time I tried something new. I told the girl behind the counter what I like in a foundation and what I'd previously been using (which I didn't like...) and she said that the Long Wear Even Finish foundation would be perfect for me. I wish I knew why she thought I'd like this, or maybe she just wanted an easy sale, but this is nothing at all Like I'd explained - even the shade match was way off. My NC35 skin was matched to 'Warm Sand' and is at least a shade, perhaps two, too light for me, but at least the undertones are right.

With 'long wear' literally being in the title, I expected this to be on par with my beloved Nars All Day Luminous and withstand a full days wear but unfortunately this began to get patchy after around 5 hours. However, it's saving grace is that it's pretty much waterproof so is perfect for a night out in a sweaty nightclub.

Unfortunately this has a matte finish which I'm not a fan of but is highly pigmented which created a medium to full coverage look. The formula is quite thick, and after a quick look on the website is described as 'gel-like' which I agree with, but it doesn't actually feel that heavy on the face nor does it look cakey. I mean, it's not the lightest formula I own but it's OK and wearable.

So for a quick run down...
Medium to full coverage
Wide shade range
Doesn't break me out but still feels moisturising
Somewhat waterproof

Matte finish
Thick formula
Not as long wearing as promised
Nothing outstanding for a £32.50 price tag

Overall, is this a good foundation? Yes, but it's just not the right foundation for me. If you're looking for something matte and full coverage for nights out then this is great and due to the no-oil, gel formula, if you accidentally fall asleep drunk in it your skin won't suffer too much the next morning. However, I was looking for a day to day, dewy foundation that's going to last a long time and this just didn't make the cut. Also, the fact that this shade is so off really doesn't help. I wish I knew what the girl working at Bobbi Brown was thinking...

  1. My friend raves about this so much, its such a shame it wasn't for you. I know what you mean about Mattes, they cling onto every dry patch possible. Have a lovely day :)
